Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique seemed reluctant to talk about star striker Kylian Mbappé ahead of the Champions League clash with Real Sociedad.

Mbappé has been nusring a sore left ankle and was an unused substitute in Saturday’s league game against Lille. Asked on Tuesday if Mbappé was ready to start against Sociedad in the first leg of their last-16 contest, Enrique replied with a terse “Yes” at the pre-match news conference.

Mbappé's PSG contract runs out at the end of June and the France star has yet to say if he will stay, with reports heavily linking him with a move to long-time suitor Real Madrid.

PSG is 11 points clear in the French league while Sociedad is only seventh in the Spanish league. But competition in Spain is generally stronger and Ligue 1 has not produced a credible rival this season, like it did when Montpellier (2012), Mbappé's Monaco (2017) and Lille (2021) won the title, and when Lens fell short by one point last season.

Ever since that defeat, the Champions League has defined PSG’s season. Frustrated fans have heaped even more pressure on a team with a reputation for falling short in the big games, quickly turning on stars like Neymar and Messi.

While PSG lost twice in the group stage and scraped into the last 16 in the last round, Sociedad finished unbeaten atop its group ahead of Inter Milan, last season’s Champions League runner-up and the runaway league leader in Italy.

Aritz Elustondo is eligible for the second leg after missing the previous European meeting on account of a yellow card suspension.

However, Elustondo picked up an injury in the 3-2 league loss at Sevilla last weekend. The defender joins Martin Merquelanz, Alvaro Odriozola, Aihen Munoz, Carlos Fernandez and Ander Barrenetxea in the club's treatment room.

Barrenetxea has a slight chance of being passed fit from a back problem, as La Real manager Imanol Alguacil is also expected to rotate his squad for PSG's visit.

The French outfit is already getting used to life without Kylian Mbappe going by PSG boss Luis Enrique opting to take off the Real Madrid-bound player for the second successive game.

Although Mbappe appeared to walk off with a slight limp, he should be able to start at Reale Arena.

Marquinhos, who was rested in the goalless league draw against Monaco at the weekend, is likely to return to action.

At the same time, Milan Skriniar, Sergio Rico, Layvin Kurzawa, Danilo Pereira and Presnel Kimpembe are all unavailable for selection. Moreover, with Marco Asensio sustaining a knock the last time out, first-leg goalscorer Bradley Barcola stands to benefit.

The Champions League is back! After a short break, the next leg of the Round of 16 is ready to kick off on Tuesday. Real Sociedad will face off against PSG in the second leg at 3:00 p.m. ET on March 5th at Reale Arena. Real Sociedad has not scored a goal the last three times they've played, a trend the team is desperate to reverse.

Real Sociedad has some ground to make up against PSG considering the result of their first leg back in February. Real Sociedad took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of PSG. The loss was Real Sociedad's first in this tournament so far.

Real Sociedad's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3-1. As for PSG, their win bumped their record up to 3-2-2.

One of these teams will be headed to the Quarter-finals, while the other will be headed home in defeat. Check CBS Sports after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other Champions League content.

The Spanish side had the better of the first half of the first leg last month but eventually succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to leave them with a huge task to make the last eight.

Manager Imanol Alguacil has not given up hope, though, having rested players for a 3-2 loss in La Liga to Sevilla at the weekend. Meanwhile, PSG played out a 0-0 draw against Monaco where Kylian Mbappe was taken off at half-time, and then remarkably watched the second half with his mother in the stands.

Real Sociedad have a host players returning for the game. Artiz Elustondo is fit again after missing the first leg, while fellow key first-teamers Takefusa Kubo, Mikel Oyarzabal and Robin Le Normand were rested at the weekend.

Mbappe should again start this weekend but has been withdrawn early in recent games with Luis Enrique telling reporters that the team must "get used to" playing without the Real Madrid-bound captain.

PSG had it far from their own way in the first leg, and Real Sociedad have prepared to be in the best shape possible for this return leg. The French giants are familiar with second-leg collapses, but even PSG surely won't mess this one up.

Though Sociedad impressed at times during the first game, they have been left with a mountain to climb. Still, manager Imanol Alguacil rested players for their recent 3-2 loss in LaLiga to Sevilla, such is his belief his side can turn this around.

Indeed, PSG hardly inspire total confidence in Europe, after all. With Kylian Mbappe increasingly left out of the first-team ahead of what looks like a summer move to Real Madrid, few would doubt they are in a state of flux.
